Timebank Member Volunteer Opportunity: Neighborhood House (High Point) After-School Tutor

Announcing a new opportunity for members – Neighborhood House at High Point is requesting After-School Tutors for elementary grades 1-5. This would begin in October 2017 and full details can be found in the document below. High Point is tutoring one day a week on Monday evenings.

Tutoring Program – Volunteer Description Fall 2017

You might think “I’m not qualified for that!”…from someone who has been a volunteer tutor in the community before, I can tell you that you most likely are. It doesn’t take much more than some compassion and ability to set some very basic ground rules, some basic reading, spelling, and skill building abilities…and what Timebank members give best: Your Time.

Typically, volunteer tutors are best suited for those that have a consistent schedule. Could you give 45 minutes most Mondays during the school year? Then, this is for you! Of course, many programs will work with your schedule, so don’t be put off if you think your schedule is too difficult. Ask, if you are interested.

While many interested people tend to fear tutoring because of math and science principals, about 85% of my experience was coaching a child who was a beginning reader and that was learning basic spelling. You might experience 1:1 and small groups during your volunteer time.

Consider this opportunity to consistently earn some hours in West Seattle. Contact Neighborhood House for more information Рthey would love to have you!
